Native to the exotic island of Tasmania, south of Australia, the Tasmanian strain is one of the most cold-hardy members of the Psilocybe cubensis family. This fact makes it much easier to grow these mushrooms in colder climates or during the winter months. With its moderate psilocybin content, this strain is a perfect fit for both novice users and advanced myconauts looking to add some color to their pastime.

Origin

Despite a fairly obvious place of origin, the history of Tasmanian is still a mystery. It is believed that the first specimens of the strain were collected in the early 2000s by an amateur mycologist nicknamed BIO. However, in theoretical terms, the practical use of magic mushrooms by Tasmanian natives could span centuries.

The strain of Psilocybe cubensis Tasmanian should also not be confused with Psilocybe tasmaniana, a species of psilocybin mushroom discovered in Tasmania in 1978 by Gaston Guzman and Roy Watling. The main differences between them are the appearance and the content of active substances in the fruiting bodies, as well as their presence on the mycological market. Currently, only prints of the Tasmanian strain of cubensis are available for purchase.

Appearance

Young caps are dark brown or reddish in color and spherical in their shape, opening, as they mature, to a light amber-colored "plate" with abundant whitish spots. Mature caps are 3-7 cm in diameter. The sturdy stems, 5 to 20 cm high, are initially creamy-white, then turn slightly yellow, and are covered with a fluffy mycelium at the base. As the fruiting body progresses, the veil on the underside of the cap ruptures, exposing dove-colored gills that, at peak maturity, are filled with millions of purplish-gray spores.

Cultivation and Yields

Tasmanian thrives on a wide range of substrates, but reaches its full quantitative and qualitative potential on a hay and straw base supplemented with pasteurized manure. Sterilized or pasteurized substrate is inoculated with spore suspension and then transferred to an incubator with a stable temperature of 25-30°C. Complete colonization of a substrate, filled to ⅔ of a one-liter jar, occurs in 7-12 days. Resistant to significant temperature fluctuations, the mycelium will not stop developing even at 22-24 °C, but the rate of colonization under such conditions leaves much to be desired.

The same story is true for the fruiting stage. Tasmanian will tolerate short periods of cold spells (up to 18 °C) in the fruiting chamber, but it will still appreciate a stable microclimate with a temperature of 20-24 °C and a relative humidity of at least 90%. Moreover, it will rapidly form primordia within 2-3 days after harvesting the first flush of fruiting bodies. Such a rapid development allows the dedicated ethnobotanist to obtain in record time an incredible 300-350 g of raw mushrooms per 1 L of substrate for the first flush, and 200-250 g each for the second and third flushes. By optimizing growing conditions and using advanced cultivation techniques (monotube, "hay sausage"), experienced shroomers can yield up to 1000g from a 3-4 kg block of substrate, but such results can only be achieved with strict adherence to technology.

Effects and Dosages

The gift of the jungle, Tasmanian gently dips into a mild psychedelic trip, comfortable for beginners and prudent explorers alike. Even moderate dosages induce a dreamlike state of heightened sensory perception – colors and sounds take on clarity, creativity and insights flow freely in the myconaut's mind, prompting an awakening of the True Self. The overly emotional moments or personal traumas, that the myconaut will face during the 5-6-hour trip, will eventually take on a positive vibe, coloring the peace of mind. Taking 1.5-2 g of dried mushrooms provides a smooth entry into the world of magic mushrooms without losing self-control or personal identification. The classic dosage of 2-5 g allows one to enjoy a spiritual connection with nature and inner consciousness, accompanied by colorful visions. A deeper dive into yourself for personal growth or gaining insight requires a serving of at least 5 g, a comfortable environment free of external stimuli, and considerable travel experience.
