Due to its mild potency and tendency to form abundant clusters on the substrate surface, Lizard King has gained fame and respect among the mushroom culture connoisseurs.

Origin

The origins of the strain date back to 2009, when an enthusiastic mycologist known to the worldwide web as "Lizard King" claimed to have discovered an unusual species of Psilocybe cubensis in northern Mexico, growing on decaying wood instead of the traditional wet meadow terrain. Amazed by his discovery, Lizard King collected samples for further research. After successful experiments at home, the mycologist shared the obtained material with his colleagues in the craft, thus giving the first step to the King Lizard's fame all over the world.

Appearance

Mature caps are 2-6 cm in diameter and change in color from brown to cream with whitish edges and a dark center to light chestnut with amber tones. They are initially spherical and open slightly as they mature. The cap is supported by a massive stem that can reach 10-15 cm in height. Some specimens are truly gigantic, bearing an almost heroic load of psilocybin. When squeezed or damaged, the mushroom tissue immediately turns a bluish color. The gills are purplish-brown. The opening of the veil ejects numerous dark spores, so even novice ethnobotanists will have no trouble making their first print.

Growing Peculiarities and Yields

Unlike most cubensis, Lizard King grows naturally on decaying wood, giving indoor growers the promising potential of cultivating this strain on wood shavings. However, the domesticated and refined version of the strain grows well on any type of nutrient substrate (wheat, raw oats, rye, hay and straw base, and pasteurized manure of ruminants). Under optimal conditions in the incubator (dark and dry environment at 27-30 °C), the mycelium will completely colonize the medium within 10-18 days. Keep your workspace and tools sterile at every stage of cultivation, as the Lizard King is somewhat susceptible to contamination.

The strain yields fruits at a temperature of 23-26 °C and a relative humidity of at least 90%. Developing mushrooms will benefit from, but do not necessarily require, indirect sunlight or faint artificial light, which will stimulate uniform growth of fruiting bodies. With a constant supply of fresh air, the risk of mutations and formation of abortions is minimal.

The average productivity of the strain is 200-300 g of fresh mushrooms per 1L of substrate in the first wave. The two subsequent flushes will yield about 150-200 g each. Experienced growers harvest more than 500 g from a 2-3 kg monotube in the first wave.

Effects and Dosages

The search for the optimal dosage is similar to finding a balance between the beauty of reality and the fear of the power of psilocybin mushrooms, which can reveal the most mysterious facets of the inner world. A weight of 1.5-2.5 grams of dried fruiting bodies will provide a pleasurable drift of consciousness over the quiet waves of the universe, however, a larger amount will be required to unlock the true psychedelic potential. The dosage of 2.5-5 g will immerse the myconaut in an intense visual journey with deep philosophical implications that can only be understood if the mind is fully open to the essence of magic mushrooms. Consuming more than 5 g will lead to serious alterations in perception of yourself and the world around you, so such an experience is only recommended for advanced travelers.

Remember that an encounter with the Lizard King is not a fun outing, but a true spiritual sacrament that deserves respect and preparation. Switch to a vegetarian diet 2-3 days before your intended trip and eliminate alcohol and psychoactive substances. Meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, mindful contemplation of objects or phenomena, playing a musical instrument will help clear your mind of clutter. Mushrooms are taken on an empty stomach or decocted.
