You are looking at an extremely rare strain of Psilocybe cubensis, named for the peculiar "rusty" color of the spore plates – Colombian Rust Spore. The strain has quickly gained widespread popularity due to its amazing ease of cultivation and powerful effects, which certainly adds to the appeal of this unique representative of the psilocybin mushrooms.

Origin

This variety is most likely a genetic mutation of the classic Colombian, but the reason the spores change their color to reddish-brown instead of the typical purplish-black has not yet been clarified. However, this peculiarity is not deterring mycologists around the world from exploring the potential of the Colombian rust spore, which in many ways outperforms a wide range of traditional strains.

Appearance

The mushrooms grow in clusters of 2-8 fruiting bodies and reach a height of 5-10 cm, moderate for cubensis. Hues of warm gold, caramel, or ochre brighten mature caps up to 6 cm in diameter. When young, the caps are rounded, flattening as they mature and sometimes becoming slightly wavy at the edges. The surface of the caps is often covered with whitish flecks – the remnants of the veil which, when ruptured, exposes brick-red spore plates, a distinctive feature of this strain.

Cultivation and Yields

From spores to fruiting bodies, Columbian Rust Spore demonstrates enviable resistance to contaminants and exhilarating growth rates when growers pay close attention to environmental conditions. These include maintaining an optimal microclimate, depending on the stage of development, and keeping the work area and tools sterile at all times.

The strain is substrate-tolerant. The incubation process takes only 7-15 days and, depending on the cultivation method, the substrate cakes are then either placed for fruiting (PF-Tek method) or used as an inoculant for bulk substrate and returned to the incubator. Its composition can vary, but the most common option is 2 parts coco coir, 2 parts vermiculite, 5-10% dolomite or limestone meal, and 1 part filtered neutral pH water. The optimal setting for the incubator is 26-28 °C and 40-50 % relative humidity. Place the container in the fruiting chamber when the secondary substrate surface is 60-70% covered with mycelium.

Maintain a temperature in the range of 22-25 °C with a humidity of at least 90% during the fruiting period. Provide a supply of fresh air via the ventilation system or by regularly airing the fruiting chamber.

When all the cultivation principles are followed, Colombian Rust Spore will fructify up to five times, pleasing the responsible mycologist with an impressive yield of up to 350 g per 1 liter of substrate from the first flush and up to 250 g from the two subsequent flushes. The fourth and fifth waves are not abundant, but with proper care of the substrate blocks, you can still harvest up to 150 g of raw fruiting bodies cumulatively.

Effects and Dosages

The strain is relatively high in active substances and quite potent in providing a truly deep experience that allows you to step through the "doors of perception". Physical and mental preparation a few days before the trip will help free your mind from any "burdens" and open you up to the power of magic mushrooms in absolute purity.

Initial threshold doses of 1-2 grams of dried fruiting bodies provide a glimpse into the magical world of psilocybin mushrooms, expanding the range of sensitivity and lifting the veil of reality beyond which one can pass with a certain traveling experience. A dosage of about 2.5-5 grams initiates a much more substantial inner exploration with vivid visualization and mystical sensations. Advanced psychonauts progress to "heroic" doses of over 5 grams, requiring a complete rejection of conscious control, where the ego shatters into thousands of pieces, only to reassemble after the trip into something entirely new...
