Thai genetics spread to the West in the 1960s when American soldiers brought them back from Vietnam. At the time, the elongated and fluffy buds were used to make cigars known as "Thai sticks" – the most potent cannabis available in the United States. Moreover, these tightly rolled cigars contained no seeds, indicating advanced cultivation techniques that had not yet been mastered in the Western world. The natural habitat of the Thai landraces is considered to be the foothills of Chiang Mai province in the "Golden Triangle" that unites the northern part of Thailand, Burma, and Laos. This region, with its opium poppy fields and smuggling routes, is one of the most dangerous places on Earth.

Features

The inherent characteristics of pure sativa include a stretchy plant structure that resembles a Christmas tree, amazing yields of thick, slightly elongated buds distinguished by a magical aroma and potent effects.

Thai sativa has such a powerful potential that is simply impossible to find in other landraces grown on other continents. Modern breeding methods have allowed THC levels in hybrids containing Thai traits to reach up to 30%, with some breeders claiming to exceed this threshold. However, in the 1960s some reports put the THC content of Thai strains at around 13%, an incredibly high level for the time. It's no wonder that this character, combined with the uplifting effects and ability to maintain clear thinking, made them so popular with recreational users and dedicated, progressive breeders.

Thai landraces are noted for their rich, woody and earthy flavors. Citrus, chocolate and spicy fuel notes dominate the aroma. Defining the organoleptic profile of local sativa is quite challenging, as different plants from different regions have different terpene profiles, resulting in different flavors and aromas.
