Meet the Diesel genetics and discover not only its amazing origin, but also all its benefits and advantages.

History

As is often the case in the cannabis world, the origins of Diesel genetics remain shrouded in mystery and urban legends. One popular version is that the Diesel family first appeared in the eastern part of the United States. There it was accidentally bred from Chemdawg, which later made its way to New York, where it was named Diesel, also known as New York City Diesel. In 1995, a breeder known as Weasel stabilized the original strain and successfully crossed it with its close relative, Chemdog 91, as well as the Massachusetts Super Skunk and Northern Lights strains offered by the Sensi Seeds seed bank.

Soon after, the accidental pollination of an entire crop of Chemdog 91 with the DNL (Northern Lights x RFK Skunk/Hawaiian) or Massachusetts Super Skunk (JJ-NYC) strains resulted in the legendary Sour Diesel – also known as East Coast Sour Diesel or simply ECSD.

This story would be incomplete without mentioning OG Kush. There are several theories, one of which is that OG Kush is merely the sister of Sour Diesel. Another theory is that it is the result of self-pollination from Chemdog 91, grown in the Lake Tahoe area in 1996. Finally, the most popular theory, put forward by Kailua Kid of the Sierra Seed Company, is that it is a cross between a Chemdawg clone and a hybrid of Lemon Thai and Old World Paki Kush bred in Northern California. This version explains the presence of the word 'Kush' in the strain name, and 'OG' probably means 'Ocean Grown'. Today, countless hybrids derived from Diesel genetics and linked to OG Kush give a clear idea of the quality of these strains, characterized by an intense cerebral effect and an unmistakable combination of diesel, earthy, piney and lemony notes.

Genetics

Cannabis seeds containing Diesel genetics have a high THC content of up to 20%, a broad terpene profile and a versatility that satisfies a wide range of preferences for both growers and stoners. Diesel hybrids, which are predominantly sativa rather than indica, provide a harmonious balance between cerebral stimulation and relaxation. This duality of effect makes them versatile for consumption in a variety of situations, from casual socializing to quiet introspection.

A distinctive feature of Diesel strains is their unique flavor and aroma composition. The pronounced fuel aroma is often accompanied by notes of citrus, earthiness and pine, creating a pleasantly invigorating and refreshing sensation. This complex bouquet paves the way for an equally exciting flavor profile. Expect a complex blend of sweetness and acidity, often complemented by a smooth aftertaste that leaves a pleasant and memorable impression on exhalation.

Growing plants belonging to this family can pose some difficulties for beginners, but some knowledge of the theory and reference to successful grow reports will help in most cases. Plants carrying Diesel genetics typically have long cycles and are not always suitable for outdoor cultivation in areas with short, cool summers. The plant simply won't have enough time to mature, which is disappointing as Diesels have exceptional yield potential. The exception is the autoflowering versions. They are quite suitable for cooler regions.
